Well, here we are, our first issue and I promised you at least a three (3) page booklet. I will say one thing and that is, it’s going to be difficult to follow in Margaret’s footsteps. What a Lady, she put in so many hours and all of them volunteer, with no pay. I wonder what the Editors of the Rotary, Lions, Moose, and Elks magazines get paid. We put out an award winning magazine every month and it’s all done by volunteers. Our dancers put on weekends, State Festivals…. all volunteer. Square dancing is an activity everyone should promote with enthusiasm.
I have a goal which I hope to reach before someone replaces me. That goal is to place each issue of “FOOTNOTES” in every Square Dancers household. Withyour help, it can be done. I’ll explain in other articles. How about a “Classified”page?
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not going to ask for anything, it’s my honor to help where I can, because this activity has done so much for Patricia and me, we can never repay what we have received. We had one person come forward to offer to be Editor. She received the McGregor Award this year—“Darlene Jolly”, but because of extenuating circumstances was unable to handle it, since it’s costly to get DSL. Darlene would have done an excellent job also (where is Montana?… just kidding)
Some of our Council and article reporters have returned, which I appreciated. We have some new ones also and many thanks to the ones who did a great job last year.
I have to acknowledge Scott & Shirley Marriner. They are “Full-Time” RV’ers. They spent eight (8) straight days at our home. Scott is a great teacher and Shirley is a great cook. Scott is the main reason the photo’s and ad’s look professional. He does this while traveling around their motor home. He had the challenge of trying to teach a “Novice Computer” person…… (“In-Design, CS5) so this September issue could go to press. When you see them, give them a hug or a hand shake and say “Thanks a MILLION”
I also have the privilege of having Kathy & Frank Chase to fall back on. Kathy’s parents were Footnote Editors for a Zillion years and that was before they had computers.
When you see Patricia, give her a HUG just for putting up with me.
